SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS

Gold and Toke have being working in the Public Relations Department of a company for over three years. Every day, Gold resumes work before work time and leaves hours after work has ended. Gold is principled and well organised about work. She does not take all her bosses instruction for granted and she is so keened about doing everything right because she believes it is the only way she can make it to the top.

Toke on the other hand is almost average with the way she works. She leaves work most times at the exact closing hour.  She resumes early at sometimes and a little late at other time. Her relationship with other bosses and colleagues is not really a smooth one and her works are not close to quick and accurate as Gold but she still tries to deliver services as good as she can.

The time for promotion came, Toke got promoted but Gold didn’t. ‘’Gold is more efficient and worthy of this promotion than Toke is’’ the line manager exclaimed as Gold went to tender her complains to him. Gold went on reminding God, her manager and other workers about the series of things she does for the company yet this is what she could get in return.

Truly hard work pays but our reliance on works should not go beyond the believe we have in God. There are lots of things that could go beyond hard work and one of it is an undeserving mercy called grace.

Some of us scan our lives and we are like we read all night, we were best in class we are all organised about lives yet those who do things care freely seems to be ahead in all aspect. True, the grace of God is so sufficient, it will get to you.

Even as we go on in our heavenly race, the services some of us render is not what will take us to heaven and this is why the access card God gave to heaven in John 3:16  didn’t coil from the works we need to do, Just the believe! ‘’whosoever believe in me shall not perish  but have everlasting life’’. Perish means hell while the everlasting life means heaven.

And so as we live and try to do the right things, we put zero assurance in ourselves or our works but in God. We are not busy watching the mistakes of others or comparing works. We are not seeing ourselves as worthy because we have an awareness that what we have is the grace and love of Christ that is for all.

CONFIDENCE

I wrote a list of things I needed to improve on. I had a conviction that I could do all except one called confidence. Confidence is the feeling of certainty but I grew up with the reverse feeling. It became evident to me in Junior Secondary School when my friends would ask me if I read for an exam and my reply would always be ''I don't know''. I replied them that way not because I wanted to shock them with a 55 over 60 as my result but because I always had doubts in my reading. I'm a youth now and this is the stage where I am supposed to grab opportunities, set goals and work towards achievement but the foundation to my achievements is what I lack. The truth is that I am not in this alone and the reason why most of us are facing this dilemma is because we expect perfection in everything we do to the extent that we run from building a positive mind set. I have started working on myself, you can too. I’m experiencing the changes bit by bit. For this...

FORGIVEN

Photo credit: faithis.com On that day she said “I believe” love began to live in her. A love that had the security she once longed for from humans. She couldn’t explain it – His love spurred up a passion for love unto others too. Though some circumstances of life made it seem like being loving was not the correct dispensation but on those times, she would recall who she was and who she had become; her transformation spelt out GRACE. Plain and simple – Grace in Jesus. It allowed her give people time to mature. There were days she would cry, laugh, smile or just stay silent, wondering what manner of love he continually bestowed upon her. It was real. Though invisible yet real. “Hey! Where have you been?” The chat stated.   She woke up to it.   “How far?” she ...

HELP!!! I THINK I WILL FAIL IN SCHOOL!

While In school, I believed one lie – that I wasn’t good enough to be a bright student. To crown it all, while my new friend and I were conversing on our first day at school, our conversation was cut short by a statement made from a 200 level student “Ah! you are a mass comm student, mass comm is not simple o! Your lectures are wicked and you people don’t use to have first class”. I really didn’t know what a first class was at that time, but I knew it had something to do with a student being at the top. Fear gripped me, then my fears inspired a prayer – “God, let me just pass and go”. God showed me I could be more than the prayer. I hate failing and I’m certain everyone does. Some people have just given up on themselves or have allowed their environment/people define them. Regardless of which position you find yourself, I will like to tell you to take off all preconceived notions (those thoughts in your mind that makes you feel like you are not good enough) as we journey on 7...
